Restylane vs Juvederm

Wrinkles, fine lines, thin lips, loss of collagen, check. Yikes. If you’re looking to reverse the signs of aging and enhance your natural beauty, you may have heard of Restylane and Juvederm dermal fillers. Each offers a similar solution—restoring your youth by reducing the signs of aging. In fact, the two are so similar you may not be able to make a choice! Well, we’re here to help you choose which one is best for you.

To begin, both Restylane and Juvederm have been approved by the FDA and have been found to be completely safe. The base ingredient in both dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid—a sugar naturally found in the skin. As a result, they’re considered to be the safest cosmetic fillers available. They are both used to restore volume and suppleness to the face. There are however a few differences between the two dermal fillers, such as:

  • Treatment longevity. Although each patient will have a unique experience with the longevity of their treatment, the amount of time a Restylane or Juvederm treatment will last is different. Restylane treatments typically last for an average of six months, while Juvederm treatments last 9 to 12 months. Juvederm has a stronger concentration of HA than Restylane, which is why it’s able to last so long.
  • Smooth vs granular. Juvederm is a smooth consistency gel, whereas Restylane is granular. Many patients feel Juvederm settles in more smooth and natural. In addition, it’s more comfortable during the procedure due to its smooth consistency.
  • Post treatment results. Regardless of the dermal filler used, most patients experience minimal side effects. For patients that do experience the most common side effects, there is a difference between the effects of Restylane and Juvederm. Restylane patients are more prone to bruising and puffiness. It’s recommended to avoid scheduling any social events the next day or two following the treatment. For Juvederm, patients may experience minor bruising, but it should subside in a short amount of time.

All in all, Juvederm is the most preferred dermal filler treatment. For more information, visit our Restylane and Juvederm pages!
